Everyone is invited to the Weissport Redneck Festival this weekend in the Weissport Park, which is held smack dab in the middle of the town.

Festivities, including the Redneck games, contests and food vendors and live entertainment will be from noon to 10 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Proceeds from the event benefit youth recreation in Weissport, which is sponsored by the Weissport Recreation Committee.

"This is the only festival in the area where everyone is invited to participate in the events," said Duane Dellecker, committee chairman. "This festival lets everyone who wants to take part be involved."

For the faint of heart, there is always the opportunity to cheer on the participants who compete in the contests.

There is the Tug a War contest at 5 p.m. Sunday, which pits the brawniest, hunkiest men in the county against each other. In the past, there were weight lifters and personal trainers trying to prove they were stronger then the construction workers.

Also a great event is the Junkman's Contest, where young men try to prove they are the best darn scrappers in the county. They load up junk in the fastest time, picking up refrigerators, stoves and other household junk as if it weighed nothing to win this contest. The Junkman's Contest will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday.

No Redneck Festival can be complete without finding the prettiest girl in the area. The Miss Daisy Duke contest at 7 p.m. Saturday proves that real Redneck girls have plenty of beauty and curves to make this contest a classy competition. Mr. Redneck Contest is also held at 7 p.m. Saturday.

No one will want to miss out on the Chariot Race contest, where teams of two people take turns riding a toilet mounted on wheels down the middle of town. This contest is what makes the Redneck Festival a must see event.

For those who love to eat, there is a contest for you, too. The top local restaurants in the area are supplying buckets of their best wings to capture the title of Zimmies and Hot Wings Eating Cook-Off contest. The restaurant who supplies the best wings will receive not only "bragging rights" but the opportunity to display the Best Wings at the Weissport Redneck Festival banner and plaque in their establishment for the next year. Judges are people in the audience who vote by sampling the wings. The wings contest will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Lawn Tractor Race is also a big event at the festival. The Lawn Tractor race will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday. This race pits the best lawn tractor drivers against each other.

Sign up for the events will be held throughout the festival and registration will close approximately 15 minutes before the event is scheduled to begin.

There will also be a talent show, "Rednecks Got Talent II, which gives festival attendees the opportunity to tell jokes, put on a skit or sing a Redneck type song. The talent show will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

New this year is the Korniest Couple contest, where couples can compete against other couples to show just how well they know each other. This contest will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Entertainment will be provided on Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. by Banned From the Ranch, a country rock band; and on Sunday, from 6 to 10 by Uncle Dad and the Cross Family Hand-Me Downs.

There will also be plenty of Redneck delicacies to sample in park such as pork barbecue, corn dogs and corn on the cob and then visitors can wash down the succulent food with plenty of sweet tea and beer.
