'Horror in the Closet'
SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS The Green residence in Berlinsville is the subject of a Halloween night feature on The Animal Planet series called "The Haunted."
Just when it appears Halloween couldn't get any scarier ...
Television watchers with an affinity for the unconventional should adjust their sets to Animal Planet Sunday night.
Those who do will see a Northampton County landmark The Abraham Berlin III homestand in Berlinsville as well as the Lehigh Valley Lights Out Paranormal Team from Lehigh Valley, featured in Animal Planet's eerie paranormal series, "The Haunted." The spooky episode, which begins at 10 p.m., is titled "Horror in the Closet."
In the episode, viewers learn that while growing up in the homestead, Andrew Green never told a soul about the spirit that was driving him mad as he didn't want people to think he was crazy. What Green didn't know was that his mother, Sharon, was also having horrifying encounters with the same ghost.
It isn't until the team from Lights Out Paranormal with Psychic Medium Lauri Moore investigate their case that the home's gruesome past is uncovered.
Longtime Berlinsville area resident, Franklin Mummey, whose family has lived in the immediate vicinity for six generations and whose great-grandmother, Sabina Berlin, actually lived in the house in the early 1900s, provided historical background for the episode.
"I was impressed that they even came to Berlinsville to film it, because not all the shows even make it to the air," Mummey said. "There definitely were pickups (through the use of electronic devices) that show evidence of actual spirits currently inhabiting the house."
Mummey said the fact that the show will be televised on Halloween night makes it all the more sweeter.
"For the local area, it's a nice highlight," he said. "For a New York show to come to Berlinsville is kind of unique, and it was very enjoyable to participate in the television production."
Animal Planet kicked off its extended season of the hit series on Oct. 3, and presents 10 all-new, one-hour episodes that chronicle true, chilling and terrifying ghost stories of families haunted by paranormal spirits.
"'The Haunted' catches us off-guard, finding us most vulnerable in the places we should be safest our own homes and workplaces," noted Marjorie Kaplan, president and general manager of Animal Planet Media. "The lines between fact and figment of imagination, truth, lore and evidence blur as true believers share their most terrifying stories in an hourlong white-knuckled thrill ride."
When the hauntings become too intense, paranormal investigation teams, such as Lights Out Paranormal, are called in to examine and record the eerie and unexplainable events. The team members are experienced paranormal sleuths who study each haunting in order to make sense and understand the strange smells, sights, sounds and behaviors.
Investigators record voices and photograph odd presences using equipment ranging from ghost boxes to Electro Magnetic Field readers which record sounds and capture ghostly images so shocking they are hard to believe.
In each episode, viewers will witness aggressive spirits, animal and human possessions and stunning unaltered evidence of unexplainable paranormal activity. Cinematic re-creations paired with eyewitness testimony and overnight investigations by local paranormal experts bring these unsettling tales to life.
