Students from Saint Joseph Regional Academy in Jim Thorpe held their Eighth annual "Race for Education" last Friday on the track at the Jim Thorpe Area High School football field.
The students had sent out sponsor sheets for friends and family members to send in donations to sponsor them with either a per-lap or straight donation and so far they have raised $15,500.
All of the monies come back to the school eventually for things such as field trips, educational materials for the students and instructional materials for the teachers for prep for their classes.
All of SJRA's students came out in shifts to walk or run for an hour according to the grade they are in and the boy and girl in each class who had the most laps each received a prize.
Kindergarden through second grade participated during the first hour, followed by grades three through five, with grades six through eight finishing the fundraiser during the last hour.
All who participated in the event had a great time doing so including not only the students and staff from Saint Joseph Regional Academy but also many of the students' friends and family members who were welcome to come and walk with the students if they wished to do so.
