Enrollment at Pleasant Valley as of October is 6,416

Charlie Conklin from Friends and Fans of PV Boys' Basketball personally thanked the Pleasant Valley School District and school board for a new scoreboard and time clock in the old PVHS gym. The club contributed $500 and with other clubs' contributions, for a total of $1,300.

Enrollment for the Pleasant Valley School District in October was 6,416. Dr. Douglas Arnold, PVSD superintendent said that it appears to be holding.

The school board approved for hire:

*Romario Relosa, casual security officer; Scott Olsen, Michael Sarnelli

*Randy Smale, maintenance effective Oct. 1 (replacement position)

The PVMS chorus will sing the Star-Spangled Banner before the Scranton Penguins game on Nov. 19, 7 p.m.

PVHS seniors Brandyn Bok and Samantha Phillips have been recognized as Commended Students in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Congratulations were given to the PVHS marching band for their outstanding performance at the Nazareth competition.

Spirit Week is Oct. 25-29. A bonfire will be held on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.

The Third Annual Community Fall Festival Night was held Tuesday, Oct. 26 at the high school. Proceeds will benefit the PVHS Courtyard Garden.

Veterans Day program, Thursday, Nov. 11 at PVHS will be held in the gym to honor and remember veterans from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Also, alumni armed service members and veterans will be recognized.

Congratulations were offered to the Girls' Cross Country Team for their MVC championship; to John Gesiski on his 300th victory as volleyball coach; tennis team on outstanding performance at MVC Tennis Tournament.

Soccer, field hockey and volleyball teams have all qualified for league playoffs and district play.

The board approved the following contracts:

*Maria V. Vanoni, Direct Instruction Education Consultant-Training $1,200 each on-site day, travel, $25/hr.; Coaching $1,200 each on site day, travel, $25/hr. to be paid from Title Funds

*Scholastic Education, Basic Product Maintenance and Support Plan for PVHS and PVMS for $4,200 from Nov. 5, 2010-Nov. 5, 2011

*to have Quad 3 perform an electrical/mechanical/construction district-wide study at a cost of $11,000

*Simplex Grinnell, $3,718 for replacement panel for PVHS fire alarm system

*Robert J. Meyer, auctioneer for PVSD auction to be held Oct. 30, advertising/expense budget, $500. 10 percent commission on gross sales. Seven additional items were added to auction-Homelite 20" 4 hp. push mower, Simplicity 2012 tractor, Demco 50 gallon water tank, Sweepster brush attachment, Cub Cadet 1250 tractor, 1992 Chevrolet van in addition to 96 400 watt metal halide gym lights, Cub Cadet Low Boy Tractor and plow, 2001 Jeep Cherokee, Minute Man walk behind 20" scrubber.

*the 2011 proposed budget $3,616, a $598 increase from last year, for West End Park and Open Space Commission support

The board awarded snow removal bids with a "No" vote from Thomas Murphy to: Richard Frantz for the Brodheadsville campus, $65 per truck, $77 per loader, $82 per dozer, $75 trucking and $89 snow pusher; Bruce George for PVE/PVI campus at $65 per truck, $77 per loader, $82 per dozer, $67 tandem, $77 triaxle; Anderson Water Hauling for Polk, Eldred and operations facility at $60 per truck, $70 per loader, $76 per dozer and $65 trucking.
