Elderly woman killed in Schuylkill crash
An elderly woman was killed when the vehicle she was a passenger in was involved in a crash about 5:09 p.m. on Wednesday along SR443 at Frantz Rd., in Washington Township, Schuylkill County.
State police at Schuylkill Haven identified the deceased as Mabel Groff, 95, of Lebanon. She was pronounced dead at the scene by county deputy coroner Paul Kennedy.
Troopers gave the following details of the accident.
Bryan Zimmerman Brubacker, 22, of Herndon, Northumberland County, was westbound driving a 2003 Ford F450 truck while Anna Groff, 78, of Lebanon, was northbound on Franz Road. At the intersection Groff stopped for a stop sign then attempted to travel straight across 443 onto Kurtz Road and pulled into Brubacker's path.
The truck struck Groff's 1996 Plymouth Voyager on the passenger's side door in the westbound lane. Upon impact both vehicles came to rest off the road along the westbound lane.
Anna Groff sustained major injuries in the crash and was transported to an area hospital, troopers said. Brubacker and his two passengers, Steven Rayebersol, 23, of Sacramento, Schuylkill County, and Amos Lapp, 21, of Herndon, all sustained minor injuries.
Damages were heavy to both vehicles, troopers said.
