Fire hits Nesquehoning home

No one was injured but heavy smoke damage was reported in a fire at 112 East Garibaldi Avenue in the New Columbus section of Nesquehoning last night.

Tony Stoeckel, the owner of the home, was not at home when the fire broke out in the basement at about 7:30 p.m.Heavy smoke reportedly was pouring from the dwelling when firefighters arrived on the scene. Responding was apparatus from Nesquehoning, New Columbus, and Hauto fire companies.The Nesquehoning ambulance and Nesquehoning police officers Carl Breiner and Tom Kurtz were also at the scene.The fire was declared under control in about 20 minutes.
