Turnpike accident injures Lehighton man

A Lehighton man was injured in a crash that occurred about 12:55 p.m. on Wednesday along the northeast extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in East Penn Township, Carbon County. State police at the Pocono barracks said Gary Drumbore, of Lehighton, was northbound and exiting the tunnel driving a 2004 Dodge Intrepid while Michele Barnard, of Mt. Laurel, N.J., was stopped along the berm in a 2006 Infinti. Troopers said Barnard attempted an illegal U-turn and pulled into the path of Drumbore. The front of Drumbore's car hit the side of Barnard's vehicle. Drumbore was injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for what troopers said were moderate injuries. Barnard was not injured. Assisting troopers at the scene were volunteers from the Palmerton ambulance, East Penn Township Fire Company and workers from the Slatington PennDOT maintenance area.
