Firefighters save Towamensing home

Quick response by Carbon county firefighters saved a Towamensing township home from being destroyed in an early Sunday morning fire. Fire companies from Towamensing and Franklin townships as well as Parryville and Bowmanstown were dispatched early Sunday to 1665 Station Street when flames were discovered in a two story wood frame dwelling. Fire officials believe the fire had its origin in a wood burner along the east wall of the dwelling. The flames then traveled below the floor at the base of the stove as well as into a wall which carried the fire into the second floor of the home. Firefighters were again summoned to the home at 8 a.m. Sunday for a rekindle of the fire. The home suffered heavy damage at the point of the source of the fire from the basement area to the roof. Towmensing fire police maintained traffic control at the scene. Due to the remote location of the scene water had to be tanked into the site. No injuries were reported in the incident.
