Although a rainbow was seen and the rain had ended during the time frame when walkers were gathering for the fourth annual Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club Pink Light Walk on Tuesday, the outdoor walk was canceled and became an indoor event instead. For the first three years, the event had perfect weather.

Following a welcome by Linda Benner, club secretary, and a inspirational talk by Jane Longazel, the nearly 200 ladies and men wearing pink T-shirts were treated to light refreshments.Benner read the Breast Cancer Bill of Rights. She said that every woman deserves access to timely and affordable high-quality breast health care.She said that as a breast cancer advocate, she pledges to support the Bill of Rights.The Bill of Rights stresses that every woman has the right to access breast care screening that may save her life. Also that women who are diagnosed with breast cancer has the right to fight the disease without fear of bankruptcy.Benner also noted that breast cancer patients should have a right to health coverage and that every woman who has an abnormal mammogram has the right to diagnosis and treatment, if needed without delay. Every woman has a right to high quality care no matter where she seeks medical services.Benner also said that uninsured women should have a right to a strong breast health care safety net and that breast cancer survivors have a right to insurance coverage for full mastectomy care, including reconstruction, plus that breast cancer survivors who participate in clinical trials have a right to coverage for routine health care costs.Benner said that every woman has a right to make informed choices and take control of her own health, plus she said that all Americans have a right to a government that invests adequately in innovative cancer research.Benner introduced Longazel to the audience. Longazel, a breast cancer survivor, said that "Real men wear pink," as she thanked everyone for coming to support the cause and especially thanked the breast cancer survivors for attending the event."We do this event for you," said Longazel. "We are here to honor you and inform you that breast cancer is serious. We need you to be aware that you need screenings and we are here to support you."Longazel said that surviving breast cancer is possible with early diagnosis.Also Benner recognized Linda Borger of Palmerton with winning first place in the "Pretty in Pink" decorate your bra contest.
