West End Rotary Club president, Karen-Susan Breitlauch thanked Bart Springer for visiting the club and giving a very informative presentation of the late Brigadier General Charles Albright. Born in Bucks County in 1830, admitted to the bar in 1852, Albright practiced law in Mauch Chunk, PA. He served in the Union Army and was promoted through the ranks from colonel to Brigadier General. After the war he resumed practicing law in Mauch Chunk, then was elected to the Forty-third United States Congress. He served one term. He resumed practicing law and engaged in manufacturing in Mauch Chunk until his death in 1880. His home became an apartment building until Bart Springer and his English-born wife, Meriel, resurrected it to its former beauty and glory. Today it is known as the Albright Mansion Civil War Restaurant and is located at 66 Broadway, Jim Thorpe.
