A driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one vehicle crash in Monroe County.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said a crash occurred about 2:34 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the intersection of Hemlock and Holiday drives in Stillwater Lakes development.

Police said John Berghoefer, 29, of Pocono Summit, crashed his car and was standing outside of it when they arrived. He showed signs of being under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. He was transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for a blood test.

Police said a search of his vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana. Charges of DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia and related counts will be filed against Berghoefer.

The second arrest occurred about 9:01 p.m. on Nov. 10 along SR940, near Sullivan Trail Motel. A vehicle operated by Joseph Walton, 24, of Wilkes-Barre, was stopped for a vehicle code violation. He was found to be under the influence. Police also observed drug paraphernalia in plain view. A further investigation revealed Walton was in possession of a small amount of marijuana. He will be cited for the drug counts and DUI, police said.
