About 10:30 p.m. Saturday, fire companies from New Philadelphia, Tuscarora, Middleport, Mount Carbon, Cumbola, Kaska and Tamaqua were called to a stubborn tire and garbage fire located at the Tucker Hill stripping pit. The pit is located deep in the woods via the Old Kaska Road in New Philadelphia. The only way to get to the fire was by brush trucks, which are equipped to drive through heavy brush and over challenging terrain. The volunteers were quick to slow and eventually stop the fire before it traveled up the hill. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the New Philadelphia Police Department.
