Bach and Handel Chorale announce Christmas concerts

The Bach and Handel Chorale of Jim Thorpe has announced its Christmas Concert series, which will be held in five separate locations.

On Saturday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m. the chorale will perform the first concert of seasonal music at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 21 Race St., Jim Thorpe.

Later that day at 7 p.m., the chorale will sing at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 1249 Trexlertown Road, Trexlertown.

On Sunday, Dec. 5, at 4 p.m. the chorale will be traveling to Tamaqua for a concert at St. John's United Church of Christ, 150 Pine St.

The following weekend, they return to Schuylkill County for two more concerts.

On Saturday Dec. 11, at 4 p.m., the chorale will perform at St. John's Lutheran Church, 106 Main St., Ringtown, and on Sunday, Dec. 12, at 3 p.m., at the Angela Triplex Theatre, 113 E. Phillips St., Coaldale.

Maestro Randall Douglas Perry, conductor of the chorale, will accompany the group on piano, as well as conduct. The program will include "And the Glory of the Lord" from "Messiah" by Handel, and "Jauchzet Frolocket" from the "Christmas Oratorio," BMV248 by Bach, and "Sheep May Safely Graze" also by Bach. Angela Mosley, soprano, will sing solo of a 19th century hymn "Morning Star, O Cheering Sight." Leta Thompson, soprano, will sing solo for "O Holy Night" by Adolphe Adam.

The chorale will sing a series of carols to dating from 15th century to the present. The audience will also have the opportunity to sing traditional Christmas carols.

Tickets for the St. Mark's Episcopal Church concert are $10. Children age 10 and under are free. Advance ticket purchases are available at Dimmick Memorial Library, 62 Broadway, Jim Thorpe; Carbon County Music and More, 199 S. The Bach and Handel Chorale is partnering with the following restaurants: Albright Mansion, Flow, Macaluso's, Moya, Through the Looking Glass, and Platz's. With the purchase of the Jim Thorpe Concert ticket concertgoers will receive a voucher for 15 percent off entrées at these restaurant for the day of the concert.
