Tamaqua police have requested a warrant for the arrest of Elizabeth Jean Ostrowski, 41, of 539 E. Elm St., Tamaqua, on charges related to the misuse of a debit card.

Ostrowski allegedly used a debit card issued to Brian Parrish to make purchases in the amount of $1,785.61. Parrish contacted police about the thefts on Sept. 23.

According to his statement, he had given his debit card to his mother while he was incarcerated in the Schuylkill County prison, Pottsville. She was to use the card to pay his bills and send him money. The mother gave the card to Ostrowski, who was supposed to use it to send money to Parrish.

Instead, Ostrowski used the card to make 30 cash withdrawals and purchases, including a Sept. 10 purchase at the Walmart in Hometown. Police used security footage from the store to positively identify Ostrowski.

She faces charges of access device fraud, theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.
