Carbon County Superintendent of Schools Stuart E. Prutzman said he was advised that 200 youths of Amish belief were allowed to quit school after the age of 14 in Lancaster County. An Act of Assembly of recent origin, he said, permits youths to leave school at the age of 14 years for religious reason or family need, providing they complete the elementary course. He said any application received must be approved by the school board, and the county and state superintendents of schools.
