Bids opened for water line replacement in Cumbola

Nine bids were opened by the Schuylkill County Commissioners at their work session Thursday for a water line replacement project on Wood Street in Cumbola in Blythe Township.

The bidders were:

Dallago's Backhoe Service, Marlin, Norwegian Township, $59,518 base bid, $5,632 first alternative and $15,774 second alternative.

Wexcon Inc., Mohrsville, $62,627 base bid, $4,527 first alternative and $15,877.50 second alternative.

Donohue Excavating and Paving Company, Schuylkill Haven, $68,940 base bid, $12,400, first alternativive and $19,899.96 second alternative.

Linde Company, Wilkes-Barre, $70,445 base bid, $6,095 first alternative and $16,975 second alternative.

Schuylkill Paving Inc., Schuylkill Haven, $87,200 base bid, $9,500 first alternative and $29,130 second alternative.

C. E. Ankiewicz Construction Company, Mountain Top, $94,238 base bid, $6,969.50 first alternative and $12,354.70 second alternative.

Pioneer Construction Company Inc., Honesdale, $100,117 base bid, $9,690 first alternative and $37,595 second alternative.

Landis C. Deck and Sons, Bernville, $105,069.58 base bid, $7,797.99 first alternative and $30,974.74 second alternative.

The bids were referred to a committee for review and recommendation with action to be taken at a future public meeting. The alternative bids are for project if money is left over from the installation of the water line, alternative one is for a fire hydrant and alternate two additional work on the lines.

Other business

The commissioners reviewed a resolution to be acted on at next week's public meeting from Rest Haven Home which seeks to establish a Guest Welfare Fund to accumulate proceeds from various fund raising events with the monies to be used to provide items and services exclusively for its resiidents.

Fee for service and purchase contracts were reviewed with Children and Youth, Human Services and Drug and Alcohol departments.

The commissioners approved the request of the Schuylkill County Community Action Agency to hold a public meeting on Friday, Nov. 12, at 10 a.m. to get imput on the proposed funding of $500,000 by the agency to provide housing rehabilitation assistance to low and very-low income homeowners in the county under the Schuylkill County Housing Rehabilitation Program.

At the salary board work session which followed the commissioners meeting reviewed was a proposal from the Human Service Department of eliminating the position of full time office support and creating a part time position of office support.

Childen and Youth Service Department is seeking to create two new caseworker positions because of the increase case load. The county contributes annually more than $3 milllion to the agency which also receives more than $7 million from the state and $1 million from the federal government annually. More than 1,600 children receive services.

The commissioners public meeting next Wednesday will be held at the Branch Township Municipal Building located in Phoenix Park at 10 a.m., followed by the salary board meeting and retirement board meeting.
