Three escapees charged as adults

The names of the three juveniles involved in a break-in, theft of a vehicle, and then high speed chase, have been released by state police at Lehighton.

The trio has been charged as adults because they utilized a deadly weapon during the commission of a robbery. Arrested were Wellington Mayo Jr., 15, of Reading; Jarod Brown, 16, of Harrisburg; and Curtis Young, 16, of Philadelphia. The three have been charged with escape, burglary, robbery and various vehicle code violations incident to a high-speed chase.

The three were placed by courts to the Youth Services Agency Camp Adams, in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County, and left the facility during the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 30. They forcibly entered a residence along Behrens Road in the township, and then stole a car from the property.

They were later spotted by Kidder Township police along SR903. Township police attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver sped away. A chase began and continued onto Interstate 80 eastbound at high rates of speed. The vehicle was stopped in the Tannersville area when stop sticks were used.
