Pregnant woman hurt in crash

A woman who is five months pregnant, was injured 7:30 a.m. this morning when involved in a crash at the intersection of state route 443 and Cold Spring Road. According to witnesses the woman was driving east on Rt. 443 when an elderly motorist driving north on Cold Spring Road, after stopping for the stop sign, attempted to pull out onto route 443. Witnesses state in doing so for some unknown reason he stopped in the path of the east bound van. The van struck the left front end of the man's pickup truck. The van continued crossing the two lanes of Rt. 443 entering the north berm plummeting down an embankment. It is believed the woman jumped from her van which continued on through the bushes and a field. A passing motorist jumped from his vehicle and chased after the driverless van until he caught it as it was about to re-enter Cold Spring Road. The victim was treated at the scene by members of the Penn Mahoning ambulance and Lehighton paramedics. West Penn Fire Co. #1 responded to the scene. West Penn police are investigating the incident.
