Jim Thorpe student recipient of AAA East Penn scholarship
The 2010 AAA East Penn Safety Patrol Scholarship recipients were recently announced by the AAA Board of Directors of the Scholarship Fund. Scholarships totaling $10,000 were awarded to Tess Bernhard, William Allen High School, Allentown; Corey Raymond Cinicola, Jim Thorpe Senior High School, Jim Thorpe; and Christian Steckel, Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Performing Arts, Bethlehem.
Bernhard and Cinicola have each been awarded a $4,000 scholarship to be given in $1,000 annual stipends for study at an accredited, four-year college or university. Steckel has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship to be given in $1,000 annual stipends for study at an accredited college or university.
Bernhard, daughter of Donald and Arlene Bernhard, was a member of the Safety Patrol at Muhlenberg Elementary School, Allentown. She is a member of the Distinguished Honor Roll at William Allen and holds regional dance medals.
Cinicola, son of Lorenzo and Lori Cinicola, was a member of the Safety Patrol at L.B. Morris Elementary School, Jim Thorpe. He is a Student Rotarian and holds the Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership and Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Awards.
Steckel, son of Daniel and Tina Steckel, was a member of the Safety Patrol at Roosevelt Elementary School, Allentown. He is a member of Student Council and the Second Stage Club at Lehigh Valley Charter High School for Performing Arts.
High School Seniors who were safety patrols in grade school are eligible to apply for the AAA East Penn Safety Patrol Scholarship. Applications can be obtained in January of each school year through the high school guidance office.
