A 15-year-old boy was seriously injured Saturday afternoon when he attempted to jump a bicycle over a ramp at a skate park in the east end of Coaldale. The youth was on a friend's bicycle when he attempted the feat. He was not wearing a helmet. Companions at the scene believe a gust of wind may have caught the victim when he was in the air, turning him and bringing him down to the ground head first. He was reported to be unconscious at the scene. When Coaldale police arrived they immediately requested an air medical transport helicopter to the scene. The victim was treated by members of the Lansford ambulance and Lehighton paramedics then flown by MedEvac helicopter to an area trauma center. Coaldale police are investigating the incident.
