Beer truck hits pole in Tamaqua

Published May 08. 2010 09:00AM

A Yuengling beer truck collided with a utility pole at the Five Points Intersection of Routes 209 and 309 in Tamaqua Friday afternoon.

Tamaqua Police said the truck, driven by John J. Petrovich, Jim Thorpe, was traveling east on Route 209 (Broad Street) and was attempting to turn right to travel south onto 309 (Center Street). Petrovich told police that a car turned in front of him and that he tried to miss hitting it. The truck, owned by Bill Weaver, Coaldale, bumped into the car and also hit the pole, which was on the sidewalk in front of the M&T Bank parking lot, snapping off the top of the pole.

No one was injured at the scene. Once the truck was removed, PPL Utlities took care of the pole.

The accident, which occured around 12:15 p.m., slowed traffic through the busy intersection. Tamaqua Fire Police assisted in directing traffic through the site.
