"Shakespeare's Clowns" performed for Tamaqua students
ANDREW LEIBENGUTH/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS Tamaqua juniors Dominic Cereimele, on right, and Paige Kosica receive acting pointers on fake slapping and hair pulling from Rand Whipple.
Rand Whipple, Artistic Director of Box of Light Theatre, performed "Shakespeare's Clowns" recently for juniors of the Tamaqua Area School District in the district auditorium.
Whipple's work as a performer has taken him to 12 countries on four continents. He was born in the Midwest, became involved in movement theatre with the Northwestern University Mime Company, and later studied acting with the late renowned acting teacher Alvina Krause in Bloomsburg. There he helped to found the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble and later, "Learning Tomorrow."
Following his performance at the school, Whipple conducted a workshop on acting with the students, consisting of slapping, hitting, hair grabbing, and behavioral follow-throughs. Funding for this program was supplied by the Schuylkill Council for the Arts.
