Palmerton postal workers involved in Saturday food drive

Palmerton residents can do their part in the fight against hunger through their participation in a national food drive.

The one day food drive will be held on Saturday, May 8, in coordination with the National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Rural Letter Carriers Post Office.

Palmerton residents can place food at their mailbox for collection, according to Postmaster Rich Wasser.

Or, items may be dropped off in front of the post office, located at 128 Delaware Ave, Wasser said.

"If they won't be home and want to, they can drop it off at the post office," Wasser said. "It will be trucked away."

Wasser said proceeds raised will go directly to a local food bank.

"We get a lot of food," he said. "It's one of the biggest food drives we have."

In addition, Wasser said both unions will participate in the food drive as well.

The 18th annual food drive expects to surpass the 1 billion pound mark in total donations collected since the union's efforts began in 1991.
