Special weekend for railroad society

During the month of May, the Anthracite Model Railroad Society, Hazleton, will be hosting an annual Weekend with Thomas and his friends at the Anthracite Model Railroad Society in the city's north section of town. Thomas and his friends will operate on the club's large HO Scale Train Layout. This will take place at the AMRS Headquarters building, 1056 Hanover Court, Hazle Township. The club is between Peace Street and James Street, and 22nd and 23rd Streets, a few blocks off of State Route 309.

The Thomas Weekend will be held from noon to 8 p.m., May 15, and noon to 5 p.m., Sunday May 16. Everyone is invited.

Bring a camera and get a picture with a special engine at the train club.

For the Thomas weekend at the train club, only equipment from the Thomas series will be running. The regular trains will return on the following weekend.

On May 22, from noon to 8 p.m. and May 23 from 1 to 5 p.m., the group will be having their annual spring open house at the club. Regular trains operating on the Model Railroad with the regular trains running for the open house.

The train layout includes scenes from Jim Thorpe (Mauch Chunk), Weatherly, Hazleton, Eckley, Harleigh, Bethlehem Steel, a locomotive Junk Yard.

Approximately 89 percent of the train railroad tracks are all hand laid which means, they build the track just like the major railroads do only in HO Scale.
