Monroe man jailed in stabbing incident

A Monroe County man was charged in a stabbing incident that started out as a domestic dispute.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said on Wednesday, April 28, about 8:38 p.m. they were dispatched to 39 Church St., in Tobyhanna, to a report of a domestic incident involving a stabbing.

Upon arrival officers found Ashley Franz and Eric Furtak. Frantz had sustained multiple stab wounds to the head, neck and hands. The suspect was identified as Jason Furtak.

Jason Furtak had fled into nearby woods prior to the arrival of police. A search was made of the area but he was not immediately found. However, about 9:30 p.m. Furtak was found and taken into custody. Police said Furtak had stabbed himself in the neck, stomach and wrist.

Both Frantz and Furtak were taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, and treated for their injuries.

Jason Furtak has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault, six counts of simple assault, two counts of recklessly endangering another person and one count each of terroristic threats and harassment.
