Chilly, but sunny.

The combination made for ideal conditions for the annual community Easter egg hunt in Lansford on Saturday.

Literally hundreds of youngster ages 10 and under took part in the event, staged at the Lansford Pool park.

The egg hunt is sponsored by the Lansford Alive Improvement Committee.

The Easter bunny arrived at the event on a firetruck, thanks to the Lansford Fire Department. Immediately upon his exiting the cab the bunny was mobbed by youngsters hugging him, while parents stood to the side snapping photos.

The park was cordoned off into various sections for different age groups.

Scores of prizes, including large chocolate bunnies, were awarded to youngsters who found a ticket in their plastic egg. Every egg contained something. If it wasn't a prize ticket, it was a toy or a piece of candy.

The event was coordinated by Renee Slakoper of Lansford Alive. She praised the assistance she received from Boyer's Markets, the Lansford American Legion Post, the Lansford Fire Department, and volunteers. The Legion provided hot dogs and other refreshments for egg hunt participants.

Slakoper said she believes the egg hunt was a success. It appeared that every youngster was able to grab some eggs.

She said funds to make the egg hunt possible came from a spaghetti dinner that her committee hosted.
