Seven Tamaqua area Girl Scouts earned Bronze and Silver Awards at a dinner and ceremony held Saturday, March 20 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Tamaqua.

Four girls received the Bronze Award, which is the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn. Requirements for this award are to learn leadership and planning skills that will allow her to develop and implement a project that will make a positive impact on the community in which she lives.The Silver Award, the highest honor for girls 11-14, acknowledges a girl's accomplishments in Girl Scouting and an ongoing commitment to improve her own life and the lives of others. Completing the step progression and the required project for this award help the girls build on leadership skills, explore career options, and continue a commitment to community and self-improvement.Each award recipient was given, in addition to a bronze or silver pin for their uniform, a certificate of achievement, and a bouquet of flowers. State Representative Jerry Knowles was also on hand to present each girl with a congratulatory letter on behalf of himself and the constituents of the 124th Legislative District.Those receiving Bronze Awards were, Emma Osenbach, Allison Pederson, Bailey Pederson, and Victoria Carrell, and Silver Award recipients included Rachael Paisley, Tiffany Cramer, and Keisha Day.
