Several cars struck

Police from numerous area police departments joined together Thursday afternoon to stop a driver reported to have struck numerous vehicles in several municipalities. The first incident was reported with a car being struck by a hit and run driver along SR902 in Mahoning Township near the Mahoning Elementary School. Reports from the scene indicated the offending vehicle was a vintage Cadillac, tan in color with a black vinyl roof with a male driver. Soon there was another report of a vehicle being struck along Mahoning Street in Lehighton. Reports surfaced the car was crossing the Weissport bridge and in doing so struck a utility pole. Police soon stopped the car along Main Road near Wagner Street. It appeared an elderly motorist was driving the vehicle and was not impaired. The car had damage to the right side and a flat tire. The unit was towed from the scene and the driver taken home. It was unknown at the time how many vehicles may have been struck in the incident.
