Tamaqua man hit by car while operating snow blower

A Tamaqua man remains in critical condition after being struck by a car Friday night while clearing snow from in front of his home. William "Bill" Steele, 54, was reportedly using a snow blower in the 300 block of East Union Street when he was struck by a 1996 Infinity, operated by David Ems, 24, of Tamaqua. Steele was treated at the scene by members of the Tamaqua ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being flown to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill, in a PennStar helicopter. The street was closed for more than an hour for police to conduct their investigation. The American Hose and East End fire companies set up a landing zone at the former Jamesway Plaza. Tamaqua police are requesting anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact them at (570) 668-6100 or 668-5000.
