Published June 30. 2010 05:00PM

Pennsylvania State Police Troop N Hazleton will be partnering with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the PennDOT initiative Operation Air, Land and Speed during the Fourth of July Holiday period which will start on Friday July 2 and conclude Monday July 5.

Operation Air, Land and Speed is a concentrated speed enforcement operation employing State Police Aerial Reconnaissance and Enforcement Program utilizing radar details and roving patrols on major limited access highways in selected high profile, urban areas.

The goal of this enforcement effort is to make our highways safer during the holiday travel period when travel is increased. Aggressive driving has proven to be a major factor in most serious highway crashes. Therefore Troopers will be watching for aggressive driving behaviors such as tailgating and speeding.

If you are going to be traveling during this upcoming holiday period please keep the following tips in mind.

* Give yourself plenty of time to get to and from your destination.

* Take frequent breaks when traveling long distances.

* Do not talk or text on your cell phone while driving.

* Do not drink and drive.

* Obey all traffic laws.

* Always wear your seat belt.
