'Cruise to the Music' benefit held in JT
VICTOR IZZO/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS In addition to a car cruise that was hosted by the Jukebox Cruisers Car Club, there were about 70 Classic Cars on display at Memorial Park during last Saturday's "Cruise to the Music Festival" fundraiser which was held at Memorial Park in Jim Thorpe to benefit at least 23 local non-profit agencies in Carbon County.
United Way of Carbon County (UWCC) and Carbon County Friends of Animals (CCFA) teamed up along with the Jukebox Cruisers Car Club to bring Carbon County a superb "Cruise to the Music Festival" fundraiser on Saturday, June 19, 2010.
The event ,which ran from 3-11 p.m., was held at Memorial Park in Jim Thorpe and featured a spectacular Car Cruise that was hosted by the Car Club.
According to the Jukebox Cruisers Car Club President Joe Boyle there were about 70 Classic Cars on display at Memorial Park.
Live entertainment under the park Gazebo began at 3 p.m. with the Vocal Trio "ICE" and a special performance by steel drummer Wes Holmes.
There were also vocal performances by 2009 Jim Thorpe Idol winner Hailey Hoherchak, previous Jim Thorpe and Carbon County Idol winner Richard Leone, and American Idol Finalist singer Tim Marchetto of Bethlehem (Hollywood Finalist Season Six).
Also performing was the Jim Thorpe High School Jazz Band followed by live music from two local bands "Analog Velvet" and "Sweet Revenge" and all of this was FREE to the public.
Exciting activities for the entire family included a Chinese Auction, yard sale, raffles and prize giveaways, a Beer Garden, food and refreshments, and fun for the kids that included various activities.
Five animal rescue groups were also present, some with animals for adoption.
All proceeds will benefit the United Way of Carbon County and Carbon County Friends of Animals and will go to aid at least 23 local non-profit agencies in Carbon County.
According to UWCC Board President Donna Lennon, they "had a wonderful day and went through a ton of supplies. They had double the food and drink from last year and while the night was not yet over, some things were running low".
She also noted that she "wants to thank all of the sponsors, who between them, covered all of the expenses for the day."
UWCC member Angela Nardini said that "I would like to thank our co-hosts the Jukebox Cruisers Car Club and the Carbon County Friends of Animals for helping to make the event happen."
She added that " aside from a little humidity, the weather was great. We had a steady flow of visitors all day and we are grateful for all of the volunteers who helped out as well as all of the people that attended the event."
