The Palmerton Meals on Wheels program was organized in 1972 by Dr. Jane Goplerud. Since this time volunteers have delivered approximately 184,086 meals to area senior citizens. A noontime meal is delivered each weekday by area volunteers. The Meals on Wheels is a service to provide meals to seniors who could not or would not otherwise eat properly and helps them live a healthier and more enjoyable life. The Palmerton Meals on Wheels held their annual volunteer appreciation picnic at the pavilion in the Palmerton Memorial Park and recognized members who have volunteered over ten years. They are: Front row left to right, Kathy Ahner, Honey Cyr, Doris Bray, Bernice Kleintop and Nancy Kresge; Back row Irene Lloyd Shinsec, George Ashman, Donald Berger and Jack Koenig.
