Palmerton Meals on Wheels recognizes volunteers
MARY TOBIA/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
Palmerton Meals on Wheels recognized approximately thirty-five of its volunteers at an appreciation picnic at the Palmerton Memorial Park. The Blue Mountain Health Care-Palmerton Campus was in charge of the barbecued chicken, baked beans and trimmings for the annual picnic. At the present time Meals on Wheels delivers 26 ready to eat meals to area senior citizens. In addition to providing nutrition to the health of their clients, the Meals on Wheels driver also serves as a safety check and a source of companionship for the senior citizens. If anyone is interested in becoming involved as a volunteer or anyone knowing of a possible new client for Meal on Wheels call co-ordinator, Richard Bowman at 610-826-1163 at the Blue Mountain Health Care Palmerton Campus. Drivers that have reached over five years of service in the program are: front row left to right, Connie Reinhart, Charlotte Koenig, John Domant, Mary Gallagher and Lois Markley; back row Bob Reinhart, Pat Held, Bill Gallgher, Richard Bowman and Lewis Markley.
