Carbon County man gets jail time for DUI

A Carbon County man was sentenced to a county prison term on Thursday after previously pleading guilty to driving under the influence (DUI).

Thomas Scott Scherer, 29, of Palmerton, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve 90 days to five years in prison for an incident that occurred on Sept. 26, 2009, along Ludlow St., in Summit Hill. At the time Scherer was given a test which revealed a .30 BAC.

Serfass also ordered Scherer to pay a fine of $1,500, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, pay a $50 monthly supervision fee, pay court costs and his license was suspended for 18 months.

Scherer will begin the jail term on July 4 at 9 a.m. and was granted work release privileges.
