Third annual Polkas for Pets in Lehighton

Published June 10. 2010 05:00PM

Roll out the barrel and have a barrel of fun on Sunday afternoon at the Lehighton Community Grove.

The third annual Polkas for Pets Animal Rescue Day will be staged here by the Mahoning Township Lions Club from noon to 6 p.m.

The Pennsylvania Villagers, a well-known polka band, will be performing 3-6 p.m.

Admission to the event is free.

Thomas Zimmerman IV, organizer, said the Animal Rescue Day offers the opportunity for the adoption of pets - both dogs and cats.

Numerous animal rescue groups will be present.

There also will be spay and neuter applications, including information on the Amazing Grace Spay and Neuter program for financially qualified individuals. The Amazing Grace program is a project of the Mahoning Lions.

There will be refreshments available.

Zimmerman said he's happy that the event has been held for three consecutive years, adding that numerous adoptions of pets occurred at the previous Polkas for Pets events.
