Palmerton student facing drug count

State police at Lehighton said a student at the Palmerton Area Junior/Senior High School, at 3515 Fireline Rd., Lower Towamensing Township, is facing drug charges.

Troopers said on June 2 about 2 p.m. troopers were called to the school to a report of a student had prescription medication on their person. Troopers said it was determined that a student had a controlled substance that was not prescribed to him.

Troopers also reported a 14-year-old male student at the school is facing a charge of simple assault for an incident reported on Monday, June 7, about 11:40 a.m. The victim is another 14-year-old male student. The suspect is charged with striking the victim with a closed fist causing an injury to the facial/head area.
