Quilts were made for wounded soldiers stationed at the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. The effort was a project of the Schuylkill County Quilters Guild, from Schuylkill Haven, for their Make a Difference Day called "Hugs For Heroes."

Carolyn's Quilt Shop in Tamaqua donated time and materials to make the quilts. Carolyn Letzo, owner of Carolyn's Quilt Shop, said, "The project is done yearly and people can drop off quilts throughout the year."

Carolyn's Quilt Shop routinely offers classes and pointers on how to make quilts and other needle crafts. The quilts should be 60 inches by 76 inches or larger. People are encouraged to call 570-668-3090 or stop by the store located at 109 East Broad St. in Tamaqua for more information on how to help.
