Heritage Hill man celebrates 92 years

Walter Woods, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community, Weatherly, recently celebrated his 92nd birthday. Born in Patterson, N.J. on Jan. 17, 1921 he was the son of the late Walter Woods and Jean Johnson.

He graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1939 and enlisted in the Air Corps. He served as a pilot during World War II and received a number of combat medals including: American Theater Medal, Air Medal with 3 Oak Clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal and Good Conduct medal.He married Winifred "Winkie" Mulhern on Nov., 12, 1994 and is still happily married, both residing at Heritage Hill Senior Community. Before moving to Heritage Hill the couple traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad.Walter has two children, Walter Jr., who is deceased, and April Harris, who resides in Danville, Pa.; and two stepsons, Thomas Learn, who resides in Palmyra, N.Y., and William Learn, who resides in North Carolina. He is proud to have six grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great-grandchild.He was a member of the American Legion and is still a member of the Masons. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and baseball.
