Palmerton man waives hearing on rape charge

Published June 02. 2010 05:00PM

A 28-year-old Palmerton man who allegedly raped a 12-old-girl has waived a preliminary hearing.

David Allan Snyder has been charged with rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child, contact/communication with a minor - sexual offenses, indecent assault in which the complainant is less than 13 years of age, and corruption of minors.

He is presently lodged in Monroe County Prison in lieu of $150,000 straight bail.

The alleged incident happened in January at a Days Inn in Pocono Township.

The girl, a resident of Emmaus, allegedly received a text message from Snyder on Jan. 27, during which he asked her to go to a motel with him.

The child told her mother she was going to stay at a friend's house and went to a nearby Pizza Hut.

Pocono Township police allege that Snyder picked her up at the Pizza Hut and drove her to the Day's Inn. He rented a room with a jacuzzi.

The next day, according to police, Snyder took the girl home and later sent her a nude photo of himself. He requested a topless photo of her, which she sent him.

Snyder had a hearing scheduled before District Judge Thomas Olsen of Tannersville, which he waived.
