Published July 29. 2010 05:00PM

During the summer, The Order of the Sons of Italy in America West End Pocono Lodge No. 2725 holds its meetings on the second Sunday of each month at 2 p.m. at the Chestnuthill Park & Senior Center, Route 715, one-half mile north of Route 209. The next meeting is Aug. 8.

The Order of the Sons of Italy in America was conceived by its founders to enroll Americans of Italian descent under one banner so that the rich cultural heritage of Italy could be preserved and shared with all Americans.

The organization raises funds for scholarships, Thanksgiving turkeys for the needy, research for Alzheimer's disease and Cooley's anemia (thalassemia), Christmas toys for hospitalized children and other community activities.

New members are welcome. Anyone who can claim Italian ancestry by birth or marriage is eligible to apply for membership. Anyone interested in becoming a member is invited to call (570) 646-4656. To view photographs visit our web site at:
