Tamaqua Fire Department giving away free smoke detectors

The Tamaqua Fire Department is giving away a limited number of free smoke detectors, to anyone who lives within the borough limits.

These detectors became available through a grant administered by the State Fire Commissioners Office, and the Schuylkill County Fire Chiefs Association, according to Christian Hadesty, Tamaqua Community Ambulance director and a lieutenant with the Tamaqua Fire Department. While all borough residents are eligible, priorities will be given to homes with children under 18, and/or elderly residents, acording to Hadesty. Also, there is no limit to the amout of detectors given to one household, but the stipulation is that they must be installed by representatives of the fire department. For more information, or to schedule installation, contact Hadesty at (570) 527-6141. Leave a message with your name, phone number and address, and your call will be returned.
