14-acres of land to be purchased for $415,000

Polk Township has agreed with the estate of Rosario V. Taraschi and Pietro V. Taraschi to purchase a 14-acre parcel on the corner of Route 209 and Polk Township Road for $415,000 and some additional costs.

An agreement of sale has been made and the closing is scheduled on or before Aug. 13.

The funds for the purchase are in the bank and even the previous board had been interested in the property said secretary/treasurer Supervisor Nancy C. May.

In other business, Hanover Engineering Associates Inc. has had engineers to the Lower Middle Creek Bridge site and has given the township a project estimate of $7,200 to $10,300.

The township will get prices on putting plows on two trucks and it has found out that there is a shortage of paint for painting road lines. Paving is to begin this week.

The non-litter ordinance matter was tabled until the supervisors' next meeting, so that all could read the proposed ordinance.

Polk Volunteer Fire Chief Jacoby reported that the volunteers responded to 11 calls during June and that the yearly total through June is 93. The company will hold its first coin toss this weekend, probably from 8 a.m. to noon or 1 p.m.

The township solicitor has begun a dialogue with Chestnuthill's township solicitor concerning the Polk-Chestnuthill line. The zoning officer reported 34 permits, 30 inspections and 7 complaints for the month, with no new housing starts. Court action was approved by the board for one township situation.

James and Julia Saeger got township approval to begin construction on only the shell of their second floor garage in light of the approaching fall and winter seasons, but must submit their intent to do just that in writing and not finish the inside work until DEP approval comes through.

It was announced that a PennDOT engineer will be coming in early August to a Windy Hill Road property that has a water problem.

The township Crime Watch meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 4. A state trooper may be in attendance.

The township has information for residents and interested individuals as to where to write to oppose consolidating local municipalities into county government as is in proposed legislation before the state governing body.

That information can be obtained during regular township hours.
