The Tamaqua Salvation Army held their Change of Command and Installation of Officer Ceremony during their Sunday service held recently. Major Sharon Whispell, from Athol, Mass., was installed as the new head officer of the Tamaqua Salvation Army, replacing Captains Gary and Joyce Thornton who have been transferred to their new duty station in Cambridge, Ohio. The Salvation Army works like the military in that they routinely rotate officers every three or so years. Majors Ron and Pam Santmyer from the Philadelphia Divisional Headquarters were the installing officers. Pictured from left are Tamaqua Salvation Army Corps soldier Larry Hosler, Major Pam Santmyer, newly-installed Tamaqua Salvation Army Major, Sharon Whispell, Major Ron Santmyer, and Tamaqua Salvation Army Corps soldier Jesse Durning.
