Two locals alive in BR playoffs

The Franklin Hurricanes advanced to the winner's bracket final of the National Division and the Panther Valley Black Diamonds stayed alive in the loser's bracket of the American Division in the Keystone Senior Babe Ruth playoffs.

The Hurricanes host No.2 seed Bushkill Township Minutement tonight at Christman's Field. The Black Diamonds travel to East Stroudsburg tomorrow night for a 6 p.m. game against the Mustangs.

American Division Losers Bracket

FT Red Sox-


The Yankees used a six-run third inning to eliminate the Red Sox 12-3.

Dan Haney had two hits and drove in two runs for the Yankees, while Rich Steigerwalt and Gabrielle Augustine each had a hit and drove in a run.

Joe Tyahla was the winning pitcher. Tom Hartman suffered the loss.

PV Black Diamonds

Thad Ogozalek threw a complete game two-hitter and Zach Stanko aded a base hit, RBI and stolen base to lead the Black Diamonds to a 5-2 win ousting the Pirates.

Ogozalek fanned six in the win. Greg Wierzbicki took the loss.

Bryan Baumgartner had a base hit and RBI for the Pirates.

Allen Warriors-Franklin Hurricanes

Dave Behler went the distance to pick up the win as the Hurricanes stayed unbeaten with a 8-6 win over the Warriors.

Tyler Rothdeutsch took the loss.

The No. 1 seed Outlaws outlasted McAdoo/Weatherly for a 6-5 win in nine innings.


American Division Losers Bracket

ES Mustangs-

Tow. Yankees

The Mustangs scored all of their runs in two innings and rode a five-inning no-hitter by John Soehngen to eliminate the Yankees 15-0.

Kyle Kersting suffered the loss.

PV Black Diamonds

Dave Vidzicki threw a two-hitter and the Black Diamonds used a seven-run fourth inning to oust the Nationals 13-1.

Vidzicki struck out seven and also went 3-for-3 at the plate with three stolen bases and two RBIs.

Kevin Schaller also went 3-for-3 with a double, two stolen bases and two RBI's.

Tamaqua Blue-

Jim Thorpe Red

Jim Thorpe Red edged Tamaqua Blue by a 9-8 count.

For Jim Thorpe Red, K.J. Snerr went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and single and three RBI. Snerr also picked up the mound win, striking out nine. Ryan Malarkey went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

For Tamaqua, Matt Minchhoff went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two singles and Connor Hartung slugged a two-run homer and singled, as well as striking out seven on the mound. Zack Coleman chipped in with a solo homer and doubled.

There is a three-way tie atop the PVLL 11-12 year-old Tournament standings as Franklin Township, Jim Thorpe Red and Tamaqua Blue each have 3-1 records.
