Steve Gaffney, 9 Tunnel St., Lansford, was arrested on two counts of simple assault and harassment after Nesquehoning police responded on July 11 at 7:27 p.m. for a fight in progress in the 100 block of West Railroad Street.

Officer Brian White charged the man after he assaulted Joe Hutta, 218 W. White St., Summit Hill, causing the victim to sustain what police called moderate injuries.

Police said Gaffney was arraigned before District Justice Casimir Kosciolek and committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning, in lieu of $2,000 bail.

In unrelated reports, police said eight drivers were arrested for traffic violations on various routes in the community, including 93, 209 and 54.

Officer Ron Peck issued six of the citations, including five for speeding and one for a stop sign violation. Officer Tim Wuttke issued the other two citations, one for speeding and the other for a stop sign violation. Police did not release the names of the drivers, only saying they were traveling between 15-18 m.p.h. over the posted speed limits.
