High-speed chase ends in fatal crash

A high-speed chase that traveled over two counties ended in a fatal crash on Friday, July 7.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said the chase began in Lehigh Township, Wayne County, and ended in Monroe County.

According to police about 5:28 p.m. Pocono officers were advised that Lehigh Township police were in pursuit of a vehicle along Interstate 380 south into Monroe County. Pocono officers were then advised that the pursuit was now on secondary roads and heading south on SR611.

During this time Pocono police were in the process of intercepting the suspect vehicle.

Pocono police were then advised the suspect vehicle had crashed into a tree along Laurel Road in Coolbaugh Township.

Upon arrival Pocono officers found two persons entrapped in the car.

The driver was identified as Kenneth Strausser, 32, and passenger Allison Strausser, 26, both of Stroudsburg. Both were extricated from the wreckage.

Allison Strausser died while being transported to a medevac helicopter landing site. She was pronounced dead by the county coroner's office. Kenneth Strausser was flown by medevac helicopter to the Community Medical Center, Scranton.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.
