Walnutport Canal locks damaged

Published July 02. 2010 05:00PM

At Walnutport Council's meeting Thursday night Councilman Matthew Newhard said that multiple locks on the Walnutport Canal have been severely damaged.

"We're in grave danger of losing the canal," Newhard said. "The canal is a big part of this town, a big recreation part of this town."

Council is looking into repairing the locks, possibly with help from a grant, or they might have to budget it for next year.

In other business, Council awarded Livengood Excavators the 2010 Street Improvements Project for $174,397.78, Mayor Henry Kline reminded everyone that the Walnutport Playground Assocition's carnival will be held next week and Councilman David Stankovic thanked the borough and Walnutport's police department for their work at the Four County Fireman's Parade.
