Tamaqua woman facing DUI count

A Tamaqua woman has been cited following a traffic stop in the borough on Jan. 18.

Officers were on patrol at 12:15 a.m. when they were alerted to a hit and run accident that occurred in Lansford. The suspect vehicle was a gold Pontiac Grand Am headed towards Tamaqua on SR209. A vehicle fitting that description was observed on 209 in the area of the former Jamesway Plaza.Officers followed the car, with lights and sirens activated, making a traffic stop in the area of Mauch Chunk Street. The driver was identified as Linda Heffelfinger, of 337 E. Elm St., Tamaqua.Officers detected the odor of alcohol and a breath test indicated Heffelfinger had a blood alcohol content of .212, well above the .08 legal limit.She was cited for driving under the influence (DUI) and careless driving. Additional charges, related to the reported hit and run, will be filed by Lansford police.
