The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart.
Last week's meeting was attended by 76 members. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session. Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "Someone There." two new members were welcomed, Eleanor Moneta and Frances Siluk.
Vice President Doris Roberts reported sending get well cards to Muriel Shigo, Nellie Wenzel, Mary Herbig and Gail Wall. Frances Koch and Theresa Reed were added to the sick list. E. Franklin Griffiths has agreed to continue supplying cake for the monthly birthday parties.
Reports were offered by secretary Eleanor Schmerfeld and treasurer Dolores Walck. Readings were offered by Jean Machamer, who also suggested possible changes for future meetings. A suggestion box will be available.
Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The meeting room is handicap accessible.
South Ward news
The South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet Thursday, at 7 p.m., in the manager's office at 320 Race St. Anyone interested in improving the community is welcome to attend.
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is available. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Tuesday, Prayer Time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry at 6:30 p.m., adult Bible study at 6:30 p.m.; Friday, Couple's Bible study at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Reading Camp begins at 10 a.m.
The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the Confirmation Class will meet at 1 p.m.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, Women's Bible study at 6 p.m., church board and search committee combined meeting at 7 p.m.; Tuesday; Thursday, Prayer group meets at 5 p.m.
The choirs rehearse on Thursday. Next week's schedule will include: Junior Choir at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.
The Tamaqua YMCA is now accepting registrations for a youth hockey league, for payers between the ages of 7 and 14. The season will begin on Jan. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley.
Also on Sunday, a time of evening praise and Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m. This will include an in-depth discussion of the morning sermon.
An evening prayer and share service is held Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
