Catholic Schools Week activities planned

Published January 19. 2010 05:00PM

Breakfast with the Bishop, a community 'Meet 'n Greet,' and a special guest speaker will soon be on tap at St. John Neumann Regional School.

Those are a sample of the activities that figure to highlight the Catholic Schools Week Celebration Feb. 1-5 at the school, according to Principal Sister Virginia Stephanie.

The school's Slatington campus will open its doors to prospective students and community members with a 'Meet 'n Greet' Open House from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Feb. 1.

At that time, the community can learn about the school and its mission to provide high-quality, values-based education.

And at 6:30 p.m. that evening, community members are invited to join in family prayer in Sacred Heart Church in Palmerton, and later view the Scholastic Book Fair selections.

On Tuesday, Feb. 2, a Scholastic Book Fair will accompany the 'Special Persons Luncheon' at the Palmerton campus, and on Thursday, Feb. 4 at the Slatington campus.

Noted educator/ecologist Dan Kunkle will conduct a presentation on the benefits of 'The Bug World' on planet Earth on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

The free event is open to all community residents at 11 a.m. at the Slatington campus and at 1 p.m. at the Palmerton campus.

A special "Breakfast with the Bishop," with John O. Barres, Bishop of Allentown, will be held at the Palmerton campus following an 8:30 a.m. Mass with students and parishioners on Thursday, Feb. 4. Student 'Prayer Partner' activities will follow after breakfast.

Catholic Schools Week is a joint project of the National Catholic Educational Association and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

St. John Neumann Regional School serves students in grades K-8 of all religious, racial, ethnic and income backgrounds.
